Phase II of the Race to the Top competition began with 35 states submitting applications. In July, that number was reduced to 19 finalists and at the end of August, just 10 states were selected as winners.
The second phase of the U.S. Department of Education's $4.35 billion Race to the Top (RTTT) finalists were announced on July 27. While the competition is tough and many won't win, students across the country have already benefited greatly from this race.
