The Business Imperative for Workplace Flexibility
Employers grappling with a shrinking labor force and a growing demand for skilled workers need to consider innovative strategies and resources when developing recruitment and retention policies. Workplace flexibility can be a powerful tool in the recruiting, retaining, and advancing of qualified employees while enhancing businesses' competitive ability in a global economy.
To that end, ICW has joined forces with the Families and Work Institute and the Twiga Foundation to implement the Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility. This awards system honors companies that successfully use flexibility to meet both employer and employee goals. This is the first award of its kind to validate companies' performance, programs, and policies with employee input, differentiating it from any other current award.
On Wednesday, January 12th, ICW discussed the need for flexible workplaces across all sectors. Participants gained a national and local perspective on why offering flexible workplaces is a strategic choice for businesses looking to maintain a strong workforce. Information on how to apply for the 2011 Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility was also provided.
